dali. or should i say, DALI

i went to dinner with a friend of mine at dali. we wanted tapas and she wanted tasty sangria.

the food was very tasty. the sangria was tasty. but jesus mary and joseph, it may be the LOUDEST FUCKING RESTAURANT I'VE EVER BEEN IN.

okay, there was a bachelorette party near us, so that didn't help matters, particularly with their multiple rounds of flash photography. but man, it was loud.

I've nearly been driven out of several restaurants by the noise. Especially when there's *also* a loud stereo, as well as all the people, kitchen noises, etc. And I thought that restaurants were a good place to have nice conversations... silly me.

I don't know, if we added Laura and Debbi and Kelli to the picture, I bet we could have made it louder. IN A GOOD WAY!

According to the restaurant industry stuff that I vaguely follow occasionally, loud and close are in. I think it sucks. But I've lost count of the restaurant reviews I've read that talked positively about the "loud, exciting atmosphere". WTF?

It wasn't just the bachelotette party -- it's always like that. The food is pretty good, and I do like the sangria, but part of the point of going out to eat with people is to be able to talk to them, and Dali makes that challenging at best.
