Sometimes, when I see the abbreviation "G" outside of a network bandwidth context, I parse it as "Grand". But, no, it's "Gig", which is much bigger.

(the immediate context was "max transactions per second: 4 G tps", and I thought "that's not very many... oh, wait, yes it is.")

Finished the first night of the "metalworking intensive" class at Artisan's Asylum. Big thumbs up. We did basic intro to MIG welding, as well as basics and etiquette for bench grinder, chop saw, and angle grinder. The class was good, and there were a couple of other women in it. I am looking forward to the rest of the sessions which will presumably be less idling and more work for everyone since we're past "please do not cut your hands off in the chop saw" sort of stuff.
