strop paste?

so, i've got a leather strop (actually leather with linen on the backside of it), but i haven't used it in a few years and haven't conditioned it in as long, so it's in need of conditioning. i used to have a small container of strop paste, but i have no idea where it went to. anyone happen to know if i can just use plain old saddle soap or mink oil to condition the leather?

(one of my knives pissed me off by being dull, so i just sharpened it until i could shave my arm hair with it but didn't want to run it over the strop without putting *something* on it)

I use jewler's red rouge (fine iron oxide suspended in wax/fat/grease), available at most hardware stores as the abrasive for the strop. As for conditioning it (assuming it's hardened), I'd use neatsfoot oil only if it were very stiff and brittle, otherwise mink oil should work fine.
