i feel like i've passed one of those "you must be this tall" things
so,
clauclauclaudia and i are moving in together. (well, she's moving into my place which is now our place.) which means it's time for one of those scary quantum jumps in relationships.
we opened a joint checking account today. it's with the bank where we both have individual accounts, so we can each shift money into the joint account as needed.
it definitely feels like passing one of those "you must be this tall to ride the serious relationship roller coaster" things.

I thought the joint checking account was too scary. Not the trust aspect, the keeping track and balancing aspect! I had a hard enough time with just my own account! Our solution was both names on all accounts, but I write all the bills. Why would I want to write all the bills if I have a hard enough time balancing? Beats a balanced account where the bills are paid late! Ahh...relationship compromises.
Have you done (are you looking to do) other legal paperwork, like health care proxies and such?

Very sweet, and congratulations to you both.

i figure legal paperwork will come later. just plain old 'living in the same place' kind of stuff so far.

Anna and I did exactly the same thing with the chequing accounts. Then after a couple of years I wasn't using mine and I was tired of balancing it and got rid of it, and later we made one the "house" account and one the "us" account and then we said eh fukkit. ^_^

We ended up just going fully joint because it was easier, but that was a gradual process that took years.
