The thing appeared on a bunch of very high traffic sites, so I bet there is or was a definite /. effect going on. Having a zillion people tracerouting into your network is going to have an effect, particularly since you're doing something that involves the router thinking as opposed to just automatically flinging packets. So, yeah, I assume they shut it down to chill things out on their network.
