Regis this is a great charity. What do you send? I think I'm going to do this.

i usually look for unanswered requests and then i'll send cd's i've burned (oh no! copyright violation!) if folks want music mixes, and i'll keep an eye peeled for cheap dvd's and used paperbacks for people who aren't specific. when i make up a box, i'll throw in non-perishable snacks like nuts and sunflower seeds, some kool-aid mix, tuna packets, things like that.

i've answered some specific requests for books (like someone who wanted to learn more about computer security) by ordering directly from amazon or powell's.

i try to send out a couple of boxes every month. i've gotten a few letters back from folks.

Regis, thanks for posting this! My kids and I just headed down to target, and bought enough to make up three generic packages. I'll look through the requests to see if I can find anyone who wants our sorts of books, or I might just through a couple books into each box, and if they don't like them, they can always trade the books with someone else.

I love being a patriotic, troop supporting liberal!

update:

I've got three packages ready to go - well, aside from being actually boxed up. I might end up going through the Anysoldier.com website, depending on whether I can find appropriate recipients from booksforsoldiers.

But, whatever. I'm really glad you posted this link today. It got me thinking and moving.
