fucking entropy

the front stairs of my house are falling apart. well, actually, the whole porch is slowly falling off the front of the house, but specifically, the first step has fallen apart today.

of course, tonight it's going to snow, so proper repairs (re-setting the bricks with new mortar) isn't going to happen since i'd like the mortar to cure some time. as in ever.

so i kludged together a temporary fix -- pulled up the offendingly loose bricks and nailed a board to the cinder blocks with masonry nails and then nailed a couple of other boards to that to bring it up to the height it needs to be, and wedged a few old bricks back in place to keep everything from wobbling too much.

it's pretty much a craptacular kludge, but it'll do for now. i couldn't get hold of the guy who repointed my basement, but i called another contractor who i thought did masonry and talked to him about coming out when the weather's a bit better and doing a better fix. (i also talked to him about my plans to eventually pull the porch off and have a new better porch put on.)

fucking entropy, making things fall apart.

Dang that stupid entropy!!

You're quite wise to wait. I have a friend here, who poured during the cold snap after a snow and they had to dig it all up as it never really cured after that...

What we need is an anentropic energy ray. Seriously. It'd make things like this a snap.
