the center cannot hold. unless i have a very productive few days

so, tuesday, i found out that i'm definitely going to india and booked tickets. i leave weds. as in next weds.

i've been running around like a madwoman doing work-related stuff (network diagrams, starting to build configs to drop on equipment on the far side, etc) and non-work-related stuff (dealing with the computer issue (rebuilding a new host) and finishing up all the vaccinations and such that i need and getting my drugs and supplies for the trip). it's fun to be intensely busy, but it's ... well... busy.

Let me know if you need a ride to the airport or anything.

how long will you be gone for? And do you know where in India?

8 days or so, in delhi. i'll probably go out to agra over the weekend, though.

Eek! Scary! But totally awesome. I hope they have someone to meet you at the airport there and take you around; my first (and so far only) trip to India would have been a bit intimidating without that. (But other people manage fine, so it's clearly not necessary...)

What shots and meds are you getting?

i'm travelling with a coworker who's been there before, and she's handling the logistics of car service and such.

i got polio booster, MMR booster, hep A vaccine, typhoid vaccine (that one was hard to find; i guess there's been a shortage post-tsunami). i have scrips for cipro (just in case, for gut bugs) and the antimalarial that starts with an M (starting tomorrow or monday, going thru a week after i get back).

i also have stocked up on deet, immodium, "irish suntan lotion" (spf 45 sunblock), and i may pick up some of that hand sanitizer stuff.

Excellent that your coworker is going. That will be really useful, I think.

I remember getting a polio booster, TD booster, gamma globulin (against Hep A), oral typhoid (which I had to take down to NY with me over a weekend in a cooler!), and something else. That something else may have been the antimalarials, but maybe not. Hm.

Hand sanitizer and sunscreen and Deet are all great; apparently a lot of diseases can be prevented by just washing your hands. The word on Immodium is not to take it unless you have to travel, because when it stops you up, the bugs stay in your system for longer. I doubt you'll need oral rehydration salts at all (I'm not sure I ever used them), but you may want to take a packet or two just in case, and maybe some chlorine or iodine in case you need to buy water on the street.

There, I think that's all my travel advice.

*hugs*

I hope you have a safe and wonderful trip.

If there are errands (drug store, travel stuff, etc) that I could
run for you on Monday/Tuesday to help, please feel free to call or email me.

Have a fantastic time in India, I'm so excited for you! Take lots of pictures that you can post to the web - I'd love to see them. And buy yourself some tasty masala spices. Mmmm. And wash your hands alot, since somebody else said that can help prevent getting sick. But mostly, have a fantastic time.
