my weekend. also, i need a MERCHANT OF DEATH

hey seattle-area folks! anyone have an EXTERMINATOR they can recommend? i need a colony of ants wiped out, preferably in a way that is minimally harmful to small to moderate sized mammals.

in other life-stuff, my weekend was good -- bachelorette celebrations for hammercock were silly and fun. also, spent some time with my folks on the cape on saturday. sunday, clauclauclaudia and i went to foxwoods where i failed to repeat last year's performance. i busted out early and proceeded to spend part of the day playing $1-$3 stud and then had dinner with clauclauclaudia (who made the money and finished in mid-20's) and then made back my tournament buy-in and then some playing $1/$2 NLHE.

i gave a vocabulary toke to a woman who used the word "transmogrify" in converstation at the table.

That place on Elm Street with the big wooden bug on the roof is owned by an uncle of [livejournal.com profile] aroraborealis, and she recommends them. Ping her for the name/number or grab it driving by.

oh, OR I could pass my reading-comprehension-before-coffee test. missed that "Seattle" bit.

The bug-on-the-roof place is called Best Pest Control Services (617-625-4850), and is top-rated by local consumers who participate in the ratings service at http://www.checkbook.org/

I don't subscribe for Seattle, but it is available: https://www.checkbook.org/subscribe/psd2.cfm

I'm not going to any exterminator that has a GIANT BUG right on their very own roof that they haven't even noticed.

$1/$3 stud? Oh my.

Vocabulary toke. I love that!

Oh, and as far as the ants go, can't you just step on 'em?

foxwoods had *insane* lists, since it's both march madness and the big poker series there. >200 people on the list for 1/2 nlhe and similar for limit games below $10/$20.

1-3 stud was one of the shorter lists, so i signed up on that since i forgot to bring a book (or my crochet), and i can only read articles in cardplayer so many times. i think everyone at the table was at least 20 years older than i was.

and what kind of crazy-assed stud game has a showdown where my queen-high flush was the FOURTH-BEST HAND! (two higher flushes and a boat)

foxwoods occasionally runs a $5/$10 HORSE game, and i signed up for the interest list, but they didn't run it.

We've used Cascade Pest Control with great success.

We smash every one we find and bleach nightly. Hasn't worked so far.

How do I tell Argentine ants from other ants? THese ones are tiny and black.

If you want to try something cheaper and DIY first, Grant's Ant Stakes (readily available at supermarkets, drug stores, hardware stores, etc.) have generally worked quite well for me.

For specific attacks, clean up whatever it is that's attracted their interest and put down a stake in its place. You can also place one or two strategically across the trail in a different location. Give it a day or 2 (sometimes 3 if it's a really bad case) and they're gone.

You can also plant a perimeter spaced every, oh, 8-10 feet or whatever, around the outside of the house as a preventative.

Yeah, my ants came back after a few years' absence. Time to blow more diatomaceous earth
into the walls. Great stuff, doesn't wear out, harmless to mammals. Does horrible things
to slugs, I hear.
