that was one of the most singularly weird experiences of my life.

so, i got lasik. seems to have gone well. i've got a next-day followup appt with my optometrist later today, but i woke up being able to see. actually, i'm a tad farsighted at the moment, although that should fade as healing continues. i'm still spending a lot of time hanging out with my eyes closed -- i'm doing blind touchtyping of most of this entry, for instance. i'm still light-sensitive, and my eyes are easily tired, but so far, so good.

it wasn't *nearly* as clockwork orange as i expected.

and not only did they give me free sunglasses, the price had also dropped since i'd booked last october, so i saved some money, too.

also, i've got clear shields to put over my eyes when i sleep, and so i ended up fitting them in front of the bathroom mirror and made sure that the cpap mask didn't interfere, and i made a shocking discovery, what with being able to see clearly while wearing the cpap mask. i don't look at all like darth vader with the cpap mask on. with the right angle hose joint poking out of the mask, i look much more like gonzo the muppet.

I am following this story with Great Interest, as I've been contemplating lasik for myself (having been bespectacled since I was 8 years old).

Hah! That is a hilarious realization. At least, I chortled.

Yeah, if lasik was anything like my cataract surgery, they give you this anesthetic that makes you just...not...care. So, yes, it is like ACW, you just don't care that it is.

I've probably got ICL's plus reading glasses in my future- the opthamologists have stopped trying to sell me Lasik since my Rx is so extreme. Here's to a quick recovery and much improved vision for you.

Oh I hated those plastic eye shields. but they did keep me from scratching. Your eyes will itch like crazy for a couple weeks and until the flaps heal a bit you can't rub them.

The funny thing is I tend to scratch in my sleep, I have scratched myself bloody without waking up because of hives. So when my eyes itched the shields kept me from scratching, but after a couple days I would try to remove them in my sleep to rub my eyes, ripping the medical tape off my face would wake me up and I would have the shield half off by the time I realized what I was doing.

We keep looking at it every year or three, but the price has been skerry. If you don't mind me asking, what did it run you?

heh, i was a terrible patient. they put these funny shields on me when i first left the doctors office. i went straight home and just passed out with the shields on. however, as soon as i woke up i tore them of and went straight out to a party. i never wore the shields again.

Welcome to the world of the sighted.

And thank you for helping to debug this process before I need to go through it myself, when my eyes start to fail in my old age. :)

Yay! Glad it seems successful and you are doing okay.

Congratulations!

I wish I could get lasik!
