okay, "moulin rouge" earned the costume award, but art direction? buh! and "memento" got robbed for screenplay. ("gosford park" was nice, but really, it was just an entire season of "upstairs downstairs" packed into a feature length film compared to "memento")

but hey! halle berry and denzel washington! all good! although now i'm thinking about the "black acting school" skit in "hollywood shuffle"

I'm glad that Denzel won, though I can't help but be annoyed that he won for this role instead of for any number of the other roles he's been in where he actually deserved to win and lost.

As for Halle Berry, I haven't seen Monster's Ball but the clip they showed was pretty convincing.

Also, I have to join the crowd and agree that Memento and McKellen were robbed. Hopefully McKellen's performance as Gandalf the White will be as good as his performance as Gandalf the Grey--or at least give the guy an award for one of his other films. He's a tremendous actor and such an incredibly nice guy in interviews and on his Web site.
