oh piffle. my main desktop machine has gone dead again. i get power to the various parts of the chassis, but no beep or visible POST. i'm guessing the processor has come unseated, which happened once before when it was moved cross-country. i'll open the case up and reseat it and see if that fixes things. *sigh*

it happened just after i moved the case, so i figure it's a good theory for what's wrong.

You are closing the arm on the ZIF socket, right? Or is it the old-style slot processor? I forget.

it's old. this is the desktop machine which we bought at computer stop in, what, 1998?

right after i bought half life, i remember that. :-)

hm, it might have that kind then. Is the processor slot long or square?
