yay internet!

The internet[1] gave me two 65g skeins of Deborah Norville serenity garden yarn - fine weight, made of microfiber.

I don't usually do much with fine weight yarn, so now I have to think of a cool project to do with it. I'm not sure how feasible it is to crochet socks rather than knit them, but I could do the uppers with this and then the feet part with a more boring color of a similar weight yarn. (I crochet, but I don't knit - I used to know the basics of knitting, but I think that knowledge has long since fallen out of my brain.)

[1] it was from a secret santa exchange for an online community i'm part of - my assignee's wife had just had a daughter, so i sent him a copy of 'blueberries for sal' and a couple of crocheted mug cozies.

I would not crochet socks from microfiber yarn, personally. Crochet is already kind of inelastic, and the yarn will make it more so. I would do something at a larger gauge by holding the yarn double.

would it work for knitted stuff?

Could teach you knitting again in about 20 minutes...maybe less. Should you be vaguely interested.

I have crocheted socks. Not recommended as a useful exercise. Very inelastic, as Kathryn noted already, which makes them hard to put on and take off.

that makes sense.

As more of a crochet-er than a knit-er, I would say look on youtube for continental style knitting, it makes much more "sense" to the brain of a crochet-er and it is about 100% easier to learn for those of us used to holding the yarn in the left hand and a hook in the right.
