Okay, "Pacific Rim" was everything I expected it to be, which is to say: awesome big loud fun with very large mecha punching very large kaiju, a lot. Complete with managing to keep the aesthetic of "guy in a rubber suit" for the kaiju, a pleasant lack of "America, Fuck Yeah" and more "entire world kicking ass together".

Of course, I would've liked a few more female characters being badassed besides Mako. But still, it was large fun, and one of the better uses of 3d I've seen. Definitely worth seeing on a big screen with 3d if you can tolerate the 3dness.

Also, there's apparently a "design your own jaegar" site, which had led to the 4th string jaegers tumblr. Amusing.

i thought much the same. though i do give it a few extra points for being essentially without romance, and also for having a significant r'ship between poc's (o different c's even).

I'd say that it's more essentially without sexuality. The romance that was there was more about respect than anything else.

I suppose that insofar as it means "hunter" in German, it could show up in all kinds of places. I'm just not used to "jaegers" in an SF context meaning anything other than GG jaegermonsters. :^)

Pacific Rim was a really fun movie, I had a good time.

It doesn't make any sense whatsoever, but it wasn't meant to, and I'm happy to enjoy that. :)
