Regarding the davis square community...

I keep wanting a burrito religious war to break out so I can drop this hilarious burrito-related rant in it.

OMG that was hilarious.

I don't understand that site. How do you read comments?

On the other hand, "I've got two burrito forks on the ends of my fucking arms! They're called hands!"

I liked. :)

[identity profile] rmd.livejournal.com 2014-03-07 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
huh? I don't think there are comments on medium.com are there? I meant I wanted to drop the burrito link into a burrito war on davis_square livejournal community. There are people there who have opinions on burritos.

He updated it with an edit based on comments received. Oh, maybe clicking the little numbered balloons on the right side shows comments? But ... that's just crazy talk and stupid design, that would be...

(I understood your intent, and I approve. :) )

Yes, that's correct

the right-side bubble has (sort of) comments. It's kind of awkward because it's been plus-ified but it's there.

[identity profile] whitebird.livejournal.com 2014-03-08 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
I also don't understand plus-ified. I suspect this is some new website annoyance just like infinite scrolls are.

OTOH, I like the Qdoba's "naked" burritos. They're burritos in a bowl without the tortilla.

Their site doesn't have a good description of it, but this person has reverse engineered the qdoba naked burrito and has some good photos.

On the one hand, ZOMFG that is so not a burrito. On the other hand, dude's being kind of a dick about it. I feel like there ought to be some space between "ha ha you schmuck you made this comically inept thing" and "I hope you catch on fire and fall down a well". Enh.

(It may just be that I've seen enough substantially similar sound stuff that's anti-women/queer/minority/whatever (see e.g. the recent Duke Porn Star stuff), and that wishing comically hateful shit on people, for whatever reason, just isn't funny to me any more. Get offa my lawn.)

(Oops, I'm on *your* lawn. Sorry. :^( Delete this comment if it is too humorless and grouchy.)

(It's pretty late at night. In that last line, I wrote "humorlous" at first.)

For me it is really the illustration that makes it.

In not-fully-unrelated news

More and more of the little button-things on Websites (especially those that have been optimized for phones) are not resolving on my browser anymore. So the little numbered balloons are just faint rectangle outlines with something that might or might not be letters in them. Does that mean OSX 6.8 is too old?

It might just mean you're blocking scripts.

Hmm. I wonder if it's a side-defect of stupid Trusteer?

I consider it a feature of whatever I installed to prevent the loading of scripts from sites other than the one I'm visiting. I permit them case by case, and I see no thumbs, ever. ;-)

It is probably partly the age of your OS. I find 10.8.x reasonable for most things. I'm not ready to transition anything to 10.9 quite yet. (I've gotten a lot more conservative in my desire to change my toolset.)

That said, the little balloons are very light grey, with white or slightly light grey numerals inside them. It could just be a poor contrast choice of the website author. No, wait, it is a poor contrast choice of the web authors. And there's a lot of that going around these days.

[identity profile] lioritgioret.livejournal.com 2014-03-08 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
No, what I'm getting is much more lame than merely the poor design choices of designers too young ever to have heard of presbyopia. (I once worked for an ad agency whose cards were dark gray printed -- well, knocked out -- with fine, white, 6 point type. I handed one of these cards to a client -- an engineer at EMC -- who promptly said, "Nobody over 40 in your company, apparently?) I get rectangles with things like "FO 53" (that's the "Home" button on twitter) in them in lieu of navigational buttons. So probably not only my old age but that of my OS.

[identity profile] whitebird.livejournal.com 2014-03-08 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, interesting. I'll try to hunt up a 10.6.8 machine and see if I can replicate that. What browser/version are you seeing it in?

Thanks for your interest -- Firefox 27.0.1

PS: Yeah, the problem is not happening in Safari.
