my weekend - part two
sunday:
i woke up alone and quickly realized that
claudia_ must have fallen asleep on the couch. logic led me to the fact that the litter box was also still downstairs, so i got up (slowly and very painfully because of my back) and grabbed the cat and wandered downstairs. i dropped the cat in the litter box and then nudged claudia a bit and sat on the couch and she curled up with her head on my lap and we both dozed for a few more hours. for a while, bonaparte was curled up on my chest as well, which was just plain adorable.
we woke up around 10, and the cat was nowhere to be seen. i had originally been planning on going to a cookout at my brother ed's place and was going to get dressed and take the cat home and hang out there till my brother
johnd picked me up to drive us both down. except damn my back hurt. so i decided to head home instead and just lay down and maybe take some robaxical (sp? it's canadian OTC muscle relaxant with a single dose containing 800mg methocarbomal and 1000mg aspirin plus some amount of caffeine).
except we had to find the cat. this proved to be difficult. we looked in all of the normal cat-sized spaces on the second floor. then we looked in all the unusually small cat-sized spaces on the second floor. then we looked in roommate rooms in case the cat had snuck in when someone had the door open on their way out. claudia looked in her bedroom (and looked around a bit in the sitting room outside her bedroom which was too full of boxes to do an exhaustive search of).
then we started getting nervous. and checked all the cat-sized spaces on the second floor again. and again. and looked outside. and asked folks on the first floor if they'd seen the cat. and then we looked around some more. and then we figured maybe the cat went upstairs when one of the second floor folks went upstairs to eat breakfast. so we went upstairs and claudia's bedroom door (which i'd closed but apparently not latched on my way out in the morning) was ajar and so we went in there and then bonaparte poked her head out of the middle of a pile of boxes and under a bookcase and came trotting out happily at the sound of my voice. which was very cute. even cuter than her following me upstairs last night - she had been trotting like a loyal dog after me.
i really hadn't noticed how strongly bonaparte had bonded to me before this. mostly because she's usually kind of standoffish or maybe just coy compared to my other two cats.
but anyways, we got the cat and stuffed her in a cat carrier and went outside to leave and got in the car and click there was no noise no beep no light no nothing. totally dead battery. like my back injury, no clear reason for this problem either.
so i did a bit of diagnostic while claudia asked one of her housemates to come jump my truck. and H came out and we jumped my truck from the minivan and then we dropped the cat off at my place without shutting off the truck engine and then drove around for a bit longer until i was fairly sure it was charged enough to be able to cope. then i drove to the parking lot of an auto parts store, shut the truck off (in case it turned out that the truck needed a new battery), restarted the truck successfully, and then drove home to lay down and drug myself because my back had been in pain for the entire morning.
so that was all annoying. the drugs and relaxants cut the pain substantially but not completely. i was all irritable and grumpy after the pain and the annoyances of the day.
grump.

i can offer big sympathies - this past week+ of neck/arm pain and spasms have really sent me running to meds, massage, accupuncture, anything that would help
feel better soon - call if you need something
