macbook + iphone + mobileme + google calendar + google calendar = confused rmd

so. i have a macbook and an iphone and i paid off apple with mobileme for them to stay in sync. clauclauclaudia has a google calendar. i also have a google account.

here's what i'd like to have happen:

  • my macbook and iphone use mobileme to chat amongst themselves. (this part is working)[1]

  • somehow, this calendar info gets displayed (presumably but not necessarily on my google calendar) in a way that clauclauclaudia can view with her google calendar. (this does not have to include any read-only calendars i display on my main calendar - just my calendar content)

  • i pull clauclauclaudia's calendar into mine to view it. (I think this is fairly straightforward but i haven't checked the exact method for doing it)

now, off to lots of googling to figure out how the hell to do this.

[1] i don't know if i'll keep mobileme beyond my current membership, but i decided it was worth the discounted price i found a while back to try it for a year to see if it was, in fact, the next best thing to sliced bread.

Sam has managed to make this work for us - we have mobileme and use ical, JB uses google calendars. When Sam's back this afternoon, we can ping you & he can share the info if you still need help.

Pulling JB's google cals to us was fairly easy - he sent us a link to view his calendar and I think we subscribed to that. It updates automatically ... I can't remember if we did the inverse to get the ical info to JB.

I've made this work (minus the iphone). While I'm going to be busy after 2pm today, you are more than welcome to call beforehand. But I have a feeling you'll figure it all out on your own.

Clue: All of the footwork here is in Google Calendar. You just need to find out what the iCal address is for your mobileme calendar.

also, sam is happy to share his discount on apple hardware and software and stuff. if you decide to keep mobileme or need other iphone or mac stuff, ping him or us :)

To get your iCal calendar published so clauclauclaudia can subscribe to it, go into the Calendar menu of iCal and choose Publish. Once it's published to MobileMe, you can then send her the URL of the calendar feed.

She would then go into her Google calendar, click one of the Settings links, click the Calendars tab, click browse interesting calendars, and then on the right, Add by URL.

Also in the Calendars tabe of her settings is the Sharing column wherein she can manage who can view (and/or change/manage) her calendars, and where she can get the subscription URL to send to you.

After that, you should be able to have all sorts of fun with dates!
