well, turns out my foot was fractured. it's healing now, but i've been scolded for walking on it too much and exhorted to stay the fuck off it.

this throws a big cramp in my plans for the next several days -- i took most of the time between tomorrow and the monday after thanksgiving off (i'll be going into work the day before thanksgiving for a half-day). my original plan was to be very productive for the first half, and then very slothful for the second half. but most of my intended projects involve standing, walking, climbing on ladders, and other mostly-prohibited activities.

heh. if i had a hint of a clue what to write about, i could sign up for NaNoWriMo and have a week long binge. :-)

well, maybe i'll try to finish vice city.

actually, i should go to a walking splint type of cast on tuesday, so i should be more mobile after that.

Are you watching Lost? Katy and Nathan got me hooked on it, but then I missed a bunch of episodes. If you've got them Tivo'd and are interested, we could watch 'em together. Maybe it's a good time to have a Spaced (http://www.spaced-out.org.uk/) marathon? or a poker tourney?

In other words, don't you have lots of very productive sedentary socializing to catch up on? ;)

If they didn't want you walking on it, why didn't they slap a cast on up to your knee or something?

well, yeah. i have plenty of sloth to catch up on. i'd just been looking forward to spending the first half of my vacation doing all kinds of around-the-house projects. i had a list and everything.

on the other hand, GUILT-FREE SLOTH ALL WEEK LONG. so that's all good.

i have been watching lost, but i've been deleting the episodes as i watch them.

other socializing, yes indeed. i must ponder this.

because they foolishly thought that if they told me "hey, don't walk on that" i wouldn't do things like put on my hiking boots and stomp around shovelling snow.

Good thing I didn't become a doctor. I can see myself saying "I don't want you walking on that foot, and to drive the point home I'M PUTTING YOU IN TRACTION OVER THE WEEKEND!"

You should train the cats to fetch beverages from the fridge.

Hey, at least you didn't ski on it for two days, as I did when I broke my ankle some years ago. =:-O

Well, I didn't realize it was broken at the time, y'see. It was a very minor fracture, sustained not from skiing, but from a slip while walking across the parking lot of a ski area.

Plus, it was the morning of the first day of a prepaid 3-day group ski trip, so I really didn't want to spend it sitting in my condo. Stayed in and kept a bag of snow on it the first day, and the next two days I cranked the boot down tight and skied gently.

When I did the wee fracture in my foot, they basically took an x-ray, said "yep, that's broken, all right" and "all I can really give you is some sympathy. Try to stay off it for a while."

So I'll pass along the sympathy...
