a lot of people are writing letters to their younger selves. i suspect the only thing i'd really want to tell myself is to point out that i'll end up happier than i ever expected to be. beyond that, i'd run the risk of not ending up here and now. things have turned out pretty well, and i'd hate to fubar it.

i do make a point, occasionally, of asking myself what i'll regret having not done (or having done) in 5 or 10 or 20 years. it fits in well with the whole idea i got in my head a while back that - having dodged bullets at least twice - that i should make a point of making good use of the time i've got that i mightn't have had if things had turned out differently.

ask yourself what are you going to look back and wish you'd done in the here and now. you might find yourself ending up taking that class, taking that trip, asking that guy/girl out on a date, risking looking like a fool a bit more often, telling your parents you love them a few extra times...

Have you heard the song "Live Like You Were Dying" (http://www.anysonglyrics.com/lyrics/t/timmcgraw/live-like-you-were-dying-lyrics.htm) by Tim McGraw? It's a little country in style for me, but I do like the lyrics, especially the bull named Fu Manchu.
