gosford park

saw "gosford park" last night. i liked it. it was a quiet fairly slow, fairly restrained (very restrained for a hollywood film, not really that restrained for *actual* british upstairs/downstairs sorts of stuff) film. i don't think it's worthy of the best picture oscar on its own, but i can't think of anything else that should be nominated in its place (especially considering the "no animation, no comedy" bias of the academy, so "shrek" is right out)
