three words: erotic aerial silk
Aug. 8th, 2005 03:21 pmi spent a long weekend in las vegas for BARGE (or as we call it in boston, BAAHHHHGE).
it's fun to create your own fun that will turn into "when i was in vegas" stories.
it's possibly even more fun to realize you're creating those stories for *other* people to tell when they go home. (sunday afternoon at binion's, i heard random non-BARGE tourists telling each other about things they'd seen the previous night when folks had come down the street from the insufficiently-tabled poker room at the plaza and made for some exceedingly fun chaos. and for some exceedingly well-tipped dealers, floor staff, and many many others.)
we saw cirque's "O", which was brilliantly staged but the actual performance pieces weren't as cool as in the other cirque shows i've seen. (i realized afterwards that most (but by no means all) of the moments i was remembering were technical, not human.) so, it was okay, and perhaps not quite the value i was hoping.
on the other hand, fashionistas (at the aladdin) turned out to far exceed my expectations for ticket value. the thing that pushed it over the edge was the previously mentioned aerial silk act. my goodness. sample here. everyone's clothed, but it might not be appropriate to view at work. the rest of the site contains a bunch of not-generally-worksafe content (mostly thonged butts, and assorted fetishwear).
poker was a blast. i took 12th (not quite in the money) in one mixed-game tournament which involved a bunch of games i don't play well, and i busted out fairly early but not embarassingly so in the main nlhe tournament. perhaps there's a lesson here.
a long trip report will likely be forthcoming. but for now, i'm back and things were fun.
