so productive, yet so slackful.
Jul. 5th, 2003 10:37 amyesterday, i was planning on doing some stuff around the house, then hitting a party/bbq. unfortunately, after doing a bit of yard work to tame the worst of the offending weeds, then transplanting some of my seedlings (lots of basil, two oregano, and one mint - which got its own separate pot) into planters, then discovering that home despot was open so i could get what i needed to fix the front stairs... i mixed up some quick-set concrete and (hopefully) fixed the front steps (some of the bricks had come off -- the guy who owned this house before me apparently thought he was a passable handyman-mason or knew someone who did. he was wrong.) well, actually, i mostly fixed them. i ran out of cement for the last two bricks. i'll see how the other ones hold up and then either mix up enough to fix the last two bricks or mix up enough to re-do all of them.
so, after that, i sat around for a while loafing, then showered, then loafed in front of "sports night" dvd's with claudia. at which point we realized that we were sliding into greath sloth and weren't going to go anywhere. we ran out of sports night and watched a bit of the pre-concert coverage. then we settled in the air conditioned bedroom to listen to the hatch shell concert live on the radio before falling off to sleep.
i was overwhelmed by cynicism at some of the more blatant "support the troops" stuff because it feels like astroturf instead of grass roots, knowing that the government was calling up cities and towns and suggesting the theme at the same time as the government was cutting pay and benefits for our military troops. the bright glossy professionally printed "support the troops" signs i saw gave me the same feeling. bah. i guess "support the troops" is different from "pay the troops". (that link above leads to an army times editorial, btw.)
today's supposed to be really hot and humid. perhaps this will be a good day to see an air conditioned movie.
