the past few days.
Jul. 25th, 2005 07:47 pmsaturday: pager goes off about 0500, alerting me to problems at work -- my coworker was working on a piece of gear and it didn't come up on reboot. since i live closer to the site, i had previously offered to go there if needed. it was needed. so 0530 i was at work at my data center. around 0630 i finished, picked up my brother, and headed to the cape. we successfully avoided the traffic going to the cape by being good and early.
on the cape we went out to breakfast with my folks, did yardwork and otherwise make ourselves useful. (i did some "intro to computer" stuff for my dad and shovelled around a bunch of dirt and planted plants for my stepmother). we drove home, running into a couple of miles of traffic at the bridge on the way back.
i spent a couple of hours recouperating and dealing with the backlog of mail and bills. then i grabbed some coffee and went to strike for the theater @ first show. happily, a bunch of arisia tech folks were there helping to strike the lights. got a couple of lovely cards and a gift card as thank-you from folks.
slept like a brick.
got up sunday, went up to portland, maine, with claudia to visit some friends and had a lovely afternoon. we puttered around the old port area, sat outside and had a leisurely dinner, and otherwise had a fine time. the ride up was annoying due to some serious traffic fuckage at the NH tolls. otoh, the ride up was perfect driving weather with the windows and sunroof open.
today, i played hookey from work and went sailing out into the outer harbor and back and then up a bit of the mystic with frotz. a lovely day with some "festive" sail conditions in the morning and a mellower time in the later afternoon. i seem to have avoided sunburn or lip problems (hooray for chapstick with sunblock).
