So, I spent Christmas day down on the Cape with [livejournal.com profile] clauclauclaudia, dogsitting for my stepmother.[1] This enabled my stepmother to go off to western MA and spend the day of Christmas with her neices and their little kids (ages 5 - 9, I think), which is great for her - it's been a while since she's been with them on the day of the holiday, and she clearly enjoys having Christmas with little kids.

One of her nieces[2] lives in an old farmhouse that's been in the family for generations. One of the things the niece and her husband do there is raise chickens. Happy mostly-free-roaming chickens that wander around and eat bugs and such. And my stepmother came back with a couple of dozen eggs. A half dozen of which she sent me off with.

And this morning, I used some of them for a yummy breakfast of scrambled eggs. I expected the eggs to be notably different than store-bought eggs. But wow. So Much Tastier. And such much more rich color in the yolk and a very noticeably different texture to the egg white.

I thinks I have to make a point to seek out happy eggs more often. Because wow, that's good stuff.

[1] Like Joseph and Mary finding no room at the inn, my stepmother found no room at the kennel. Which is about as far as that metaphor goes, so I'll just drop it here. We did end up hanging out and watching Thor and the first few episodes of Fringe, which was cool.
[2] Speaking of whom, she's a good real estate lawyer in western MA, in case any of y'all need such a thing.
