So, my old sewing machine (late 1960's singer) is wedged again. I had it tuned up last year and they mentioned it had some pretty worn gears, so I assume something is well borked inside it. I haven't taken it apart to look yet. But I'm thinking it might be time to look at replace instead of just repair.
So, I figured I'd ask the LJ hive mind for opinions as far as brands etc. I've heard that Singer's brand quality has gone down in recent years - who's making good consumer-grade stuff now? I'm only doing very occasional sewing (I've mostly used it for hems, repairs, and making curtains and made a small quilt years ago) so I don't need any kind of industrial studliness. I do want a buttonhole maker - it's the only thing my machine can't do that I wish it could. (I think this machine was just after zig zag stitching and just before buttonholing)
