last week, clauclauclaudia and i went to NYC and saw "wicked". it was as good as hoped.

we were going to take the train, then we kept being slackful about getting tickets, and decided to drive, but then we saw the weather reports and got train tickets. good call, since we went down tues and went back weds. bad: no mid-trip stop at rein's. good: no driving for hundreds of miles of ice slushy frozen ick. better: our train north was cancelled, so amtrak honored our tickets on the acela which got us north in more comfort and arriving home about half an hour before we were scheduled to arrive.

later in the week, i talked to metagnat about electricity and making LED's light up and the secret ways of prototyping breadboards and stuff. i also discovered that my big box of electronic cruft smells faintly musty, like old books; this makes sense considering that the last time i did very much with it was at least a decade ago. i sent her off with my copy of horowitz and hill to read the fundamentals chapter.

this weekend, clauclauclaudia and i did the SF32 24 hour movie marathon. she's been going for many years, and now that she and i are together, it's something i join in on.

this year featured a test screening of a mystery movie that turned out to be "trail of the screaming forehead" from the same folks who did "lost skeleton of cadavra". this was much better than cadavra, i thought, with better pacing and overall funnier.

the marathon folks had also booked a bunch of short films that ranged from moody and excellent to funny and excellent. a couple of them failed to impress, but overall, good stuff.

the theme this year was "bots over boston", and the regular feature movies included "the stepford wives" (the original), which - like "rosemary's baby" - featured classic ira levin "1970's woman in isolation having paranoia ... OR IS IT PARANOIA?" creepiness... but without the "directed by a child rapist" part of "rosemary's baby".

other movies included "chopping mall" (very "USA up all night"), "robocop", "forbidden planet" (so good!), the anime "metropolis", "moster house", "puzzlehead", "dark star" (i dozed thru more of this than i actually had wanted to), and "slither". okay, no bots in the last one, there, but it was better than i expected. still cheezariffic, but not as pathetic as expected.

we both completely missed "frankenstein meets the space monster" because we went down the street to Divafor dinner. I am totally okay with that trade-off. (Namaskar, our original destination, was not actually open even though the sign claimed they were. *shake fist*)

=v= I saw Wicked with my brother (http://www.things.org/~jym/pix/by-sibs/jym-tony-wicked.jpg), who for some reason knew many well-groomed men involved in theatre, so we went backstage to hang with The Wiz. "Don't make me call in my flying monkeys!!!"
