my grandmother disdained her "help i've fallen" lanyard and frequently threw it to the back of her dresser, but she was wearing it the day she fell and, well, couldn't get up...

I love that it's bright yellow.

they have them in blue and black, but i figure safety gear should be an easily visible color.

I've been meaning to get something like that for a while now, actually.

That has been on my list for a while now - that and a hand-crank emergency radio. I'm glad to see they come in yellow (bright) - the last time I was looking (years ago) they were not as HEY-I-AM-FOR-EMERGENCIES obvious.

And ... more *hugs*

Makes sense. Wish I'd known about the ones that are small enough for a keychain. The one I have is larger, and thus only makes sense to keep in the glove compartment.

A good friend just gave me one of these (http://www.ourdesigns.com/product.jsp?path=-1%7C5159%7C1060&id=147989). In addition to the seatbelt cutter and window buster, it's got a biiiiiigass blunt-tipped serrated blade. Long story what brought it on; I helped him out in a bind and he gave me this cool thing with a note that said, "So that the next time you need to help someone, it'll be a bit easier."

I need to keep up on my friends LJs a lot better.

So sorry about your dad. (Fuck, I never know what to say to comfort someone in times like these).

You are in my thoughts today.

ooh, that is practical looking. i thought that the "cop tool" (http://www.wilsontactical.com/detail.aspx?ID=27#) was appealing. i notice my nephew the state trooper carries a pocket knife in his boot. i may buy him one of the cop tools for his other boot.
