That said, if I wonder if they tell you what designer would be working on your home before you sign the contract, because if they said Doug, I'd have to say 'um. no thanks' :)

nope. you don't get to pick which designer or which carpenter works on your house.

i'm guessing the trick is to 1. make sure the other couple knows what's on the "don't fuck with this list" you gave to tlc (you get to list things that you don't want changed, like "don't paint the fireplace"), and 2. make a sacred pact that if things are Way Too Fugly you will all work together to make it not suck.

the british show is better because it's less about the designers egos and more about doing stuff the homeowners actually will like.

Too bad Doug often ignores the 'Do Not Fuck With This' list. There's an episode covered in Entertainment Weekly (the one where they paint the walls of the woman's house brown with a white grid on it and cover her fireplace (which covering actually breaks the fire codes)) and the home owner cried, she was so upset. Doug spent much of the episode having Luke Skywalker sized whining fits. :P

I have to say that Frank (who was the other designer on the show) would have been the perfect designer to do that woman's house. Just a shame to they gave her room to Doug.
