happy dec20 day.

it's dec20 day. here's thirty six of something to celebrate:

• 1. there have been exercise fad products for every other damned thing out there, so why hasn't someone made SHOVEL-CISING with mock snow shovelling?


• 2. i don't know if the arduino library for dealing with the lantronix ethernet frobs (as used on the ethershield) excessively complex or am i just easily confused.


• 3. i may need to drop the number of people whose twitter feeds i'm having sent to my phone, since my plan has a limited number of free txt messages and i keep nearly exceeding it.


• 4. i am still amused by "the slutcracker" as i think about it the day after.


• 5. i have a theory that carrie fisher is slowly turning into elaine stritch. voice getting lower and more gravelly? sobering up? (i do want to see fisher's one woman show. it looks good and god knows the woman is a hilarious writer.)


• 6. i need to remember to place my digikey order.


• 7. i should drop some stuff in the mail and also buy more milk today or tomorrow. (here endeth the random errand part of the list)


• 8. this 'festivus' thing, what's all this then? it's some kind of seinfeld thing? i think i watched one episode of that show ever.


• 9. i so want there to be more episodes of "The Middle Man" because it's silly and fun. (example via the middleblog)


• 10. second christmas without my dad. less numb than the first. still kind of sad.


• 11. going thru my dad's clients' records is like the archaeology of small business technology.


• 12. when i was growing up, my dad had this awesome typewriter with a key with a cent symbol but no number 1 key. (you used the lower case "L" for the number 1)


• 13. one more errand type thing: need to find my aladdin lamp and get specs to order a new chimney glass and mantles for it.


• 14. i love my neighbors who have a snow blower and who sometimes like to use it to do things like clear my plow berm.


• 15. i seem to have misplaced my grey bamboo yarn which was partway thru a crocheted mug cozy


• 16. polarfleece shemagh scarves seem like a great idea. hmmm...


• 17. last year i made clauclauclaudia a hat out of great alpaca/silk mix yarn. i could make myself one -- must consider this.


• 18. need to get more end-of-year donations out to charitable causes i like.


• 19. i am waiting in the lull between storms. *looks nervously at the sky*


• 20. still have some kind of twinge in the muscles of my upper thigh/hamstring area where it meets my pelvis. trending better, though.


• 21. after events of 5 years ago, strange muscle pains in or adjacent to my abdomen make me have CANCER FEAR, regardless of other evidence. (bad indigestion or gas does the same thing)


• 22. today, i kept calling my grey cat (bonaparte) by the name "bonaparte fluffybutt III" (she is the third cat, after all).


• 23. i never was much of a xmas-card-sending type, but i fell into it a few years back and now it's becoming a tradition for myself.


• 24. the cats have cleverly hidden the claw trimmers.


• 25. i occasionally feel the urge to do some kind of geeky xmas decorations on the house. i think it's the void left by my across-the-street neighbors no longer making their house visible from orbit


• 26. hot cocoa and chocolate liquor are wonderful, particularly after coming in from shovelling


• 27. so is hot cocoa and vanilla-flavored coffee liquor.


• 28. i am so very blessed to have a roof over my head, food in my pantry, steay income, a beloved girlfriend living with me, a family i like, and an awesome community of friends.


• 29. i suggested to the city of somerville that they set up a snow emergency twitter feed.


• 30. someone at the slutcracker show said that there was already an unofficial one per universal hub (which would save me the trouble of setting up an unofficial one myself), but i can't find info about it on the universal hub website.


• 31. it's been far too long since i visited seattle.


• 32. i want to make more time (and have more energy) to be more social.


• 33. i want to make more time to go shooting. (i haven't in quite a while)


• 34. claudia is trending better but still having a hard time of it.


• 35. i want higher bandwidth (ideally cable modem speeds) with static ip addresses and inbound and outbound service ports (80, 443, 25, 22, at least), but i don't think i can get that all in a cheap package. i'm considering splitting off the server stuff, dropping the bandwidth there down a bit, and putting the non-server stuff onto RCN cable once clauclauclaidia gets a job.


• 36. there's something about the smell of old paper. it's unique and very distinctive and some combination of nostalgia and comfort.
