is there a way to have the iphone have a specific alert tone (or, even better, a silent alert tone) for exactly one SMS sender, but use the default for all other SMS senders?

i can see how to do it for telephone ringtones, but sms alert tones seem to be handled in a different part of the settings, and i don't see a way to specify it by sender.

thanks!

Sadly no, not even with jailbreaking as far as I know.

what the *hell*, apple?

it can't be that unusual a request.

huh. that's just peculiar.

because, i like getting some information pushed via SMS, but i don't want to be alerted to it the way i am when other SMS messages come in.

the other thing that would be awesome would be the ability to assign a default phone call ring tone to a group. so, a default for "everyone on my favorites", a default for "everyone in my contacts", and a default for the entire rest of the world. plus, of course, custom ringtones for specific contacts.

and a pony.

There are other common requests, like a todo list and cut and paste, which they also haven't gotten around to yet.

A pony would fit poorly inside your iPhone.

Yeah, there are a good number of things that are just missing for some odd reason. I'm not that bothered by the lack of copy and paste, personally, but could really go for some voice dialing.
