done (either by me or by [livejournal.com profile] clauclauclaudia):
  • Cleared out catbox and used litter in downstairs bathroom
  • Cleared everything (eg personal care products, etc) out of the downstairs bathroom except a blow drier (going to charity) and contents of the medicine cabinet (i need to see if there's stuff that needs special disposal)
  • Cleaned downstairs bathroom sink, toilet, shower stall walls
  • Cleared out some foodstuffs from pantry that were open or expired
  • Washed downstairs bathroom floor
  • Trashed candles, ashtray contents, etc.

next series of things to be done:
  • Replace downstairs toilet seat
  • Get contractor in to see about repairing subfloor in upstairs bathroom and replacing rotted bit of kitchen subfloor in the downstairs kitchen
  • Scrub the everliving hell out of the tub. (perhaps i need some kind of scotchbright-covered drill attachment for this purpose)
  • Bag up the usable foodstuffs and take them a food pantry
  • Start stashing things in the truck to go to goodwill
  • Put the tenant's couch on the street and put an ad for it on gbreuse and craigslist
  • Put tenant's mattress/box-spring out Weds night for trash day Thursday
  • Haul current collection of full trash bags out for the trash
  • Clear downstairs fridge contents
  • Clear downstairs freezer contents

Use white vinegar on the tub. And a scotchbright-covered drill attachment.

I'd already decided that selling the CA house instead of renting it out was the correct decision, but thank you for reinforcing it :-)

(I know, like everything it has a cost/benefit analysis, but, I'm an inherently lazy person.)

Are you looking to re-rent soon or is the SO of the deceased tenant going to stay?

Ack, that's a lot to do. :( You could maybe hire a cleaning service and take it out of the deposit, so you don't have to personally scrub out the tub?
