an assassination is a lot more focused than that. I've never seen any indication that the soviets knew Bircher was on that flight; it was a cold war escalation, and pretty terrible, but all the evidence is that they had no idea who was on the plane, or indeed, whose plane it was. They were just convinced it was being used for military reasons.

I find it interesting that the two dueling deaths, one seems to have been with a judge, and the other with another legislator.

I wonder if there's a list of all the duels that representatives have fought in general, since it seems likely (with several deaths) that there were a few that were survived, or where the congressman or senator *won*.
