Huh. If I live as long as my mother, I've got 7 years 5 months left.

Well, slightly less. But that'll do for an approximation.

Guess I *am* getting older.

Here's hoping you're around for quite a bit longer.

I *expect* I will live longer than that. It's just that since I was 16, it's sort of been there as a marker -- first, unthinkably far away, then I was kind of halfway there, and I realized recently that, yeah, it's kind of looming there in the distanct.

I know exactly what you mean; I've now outlived my father by 8 years.

*nods* i understand. i think for my mom, her dad's death did that -- she was x years older, then y years older, &c.

her mother died just a couple years ago, aged 100. i hate to want my mom to focus on her mother's death, of course, but at the same time i don't think it's a bad goal to hit 100! anyway it's more comfortable, from my perspective, than having her focussed on the early loss of her father, which i think hit her very hard.

i apologize for sidetracking your thread onto my own family cruft :/ i was just with my folks and their issues have taken over my mind...

Make a note to be gentle with yourself that year. One of my former housemates had a rough year, including an abnormal pap, at 34--the year her mother died of cervical cancer. It took her a while to figure out that this is what was bothering her throughout that year, especially around her birthdays.

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that.

If I live as long as my paternal grandmother, I've got 64 years left and I'll still be alive.

If I live as long as my paternal great grandfather, I've been dead for 5 years.

Don't read too much into it.
