So, yeah, new year's eve. And we had a couple of invites, so we ended up planning that I'd go off to event A and [livejournal.com profile] clauclauclaudia would go off to event B where I would meet up with her before midnight. So I drive off to event A, where I have a fun time, and I end up leaving a little later than I had planned to and realized I would but cutting it close getting there before midnight. But I text Claudia and try calling her at home and on her cell to be sure she was over at event B. No answer, so I make my way over to event B, where I sheepishly arrive mere seconds after midnight, ready to look apologetic and wear the "i'm the dork" hat in the relationship for a bit. Except ... no Claudia. *blink*

So I try calling home and cell numbers again, and I text again. I suspect that she ended up falling asleep, so I'm not too worried (it's not like she was driving somewhere), but I'm still a little bit worried. Not "text her with my callback number so someone can contact me if she's not able to" kind of worried, but worried enough that it eventually started distracting me from pleasant company and amusement at bears looking for hats. And eventually, I decide to head home to be sure she's curled up asleep and not, for example, at Mt Auburn because there was an mbta bus crash or something.

The short ride home is when I got worried. I started thinking through what to do if she wasn't at home. (Call SPD non-emergency number and go from there.) And then I turned the corner onto my street and saw that the interior lights were on in the house, so it was almost certain that she was home asleep. And, in fact, she was. So I woke her up and wished her a happy new year.

And, yeah, I mocked her and it was *her* turn to wear the "i'm a dork" hat in the relationship. And I didn't even have to feel like a doofus for missing the midnight smooch because she wasn't there either. Yay!

I figure amusing stories with happy endings and nobody getting hurt is a pretty good way to start the year.
