I got an ipad as a gift, so I have joined the cult of ipad!

Can anyone recommend an ssh client for the ipad and/or iphone? I'm fine with paying money if it's functional enough to be worth it.

I've got evernote and pocket already, and I dabble with the cult of omnifocus. What cool things might I be missing?

Prompt is the right ssh client -- good predictive typehead that doesn't get in the way, solid terminal type support, etc.

GoodReader for reading PDFs and general file manipulation. For example, I use it to unzip files from email.

Prompt is indeed the SSH client that I use. It's spiffy. (Although I use SSH very seldom on the iPad.) GoodReader is also a good file reading app.

Omnifocus is indeed a good task manager. Circus Ponies Notebook is a pretty good note taking app, especially if you use Macs. Tweetbot is my twitter client. Zite is an interesting news aggregator. Catan HD and Carcassone are good digitizations of their games. Oh, so is Civ Rev HD, Titan HD, Scrabble (you can use iPods/iPhones as tile trays...), Risk, and Ticket To Ride. Osmos makes an excellent iPad game. SkySafari, Observatory, Star Walk, Distant Suns and NASA are good astronomy apps. Sand Pictures is nice if you like the falling sand thingies. Aelios makes for a really pretty weather app, but I also like Weather Bug.Netflix and Opentable are good iPad renditions. Rooms is a good chat/IRC client. Hmm. Snood HD, Tilt To Live HD, PG Uranus (has a great Joust! workalike) Spirit for iPad, World of Goo. Pandora, Facebook. LiveJounal app. And I find EleNints to be interesting. Oh, and Apple's Remote app.

If you already use Toodledo, there's a client for it on IOS that's very good. But if you don't, Omnifocus has a strong following.

iCloud

If you haven't turned on your various iCloud settings, at the least turn on Find my iPad. If you're comfortable with Apple having some of your data, turn on the rest, the functionality is awesome, especially if you're also using a Mac. And if you don't expect to sync it with iTunes very often (if ever) then definitely turn on iCloud backups; your iPad will automatically back itself up to Apple when it's got wifi and power.

Various iCloud apps have their data accessible through iCloud.com as well (and you can go there to find your iPad when you eventually misplace it).

If you want to use gmail with it, set up gmail as a Microsoft Exchange client when you add it to your iPad (yes, that's intuitive). You can configure things through m.google.com, including calendar access.

Omnifocus is awesome though if you just seek a simple todo manager, it's overkill. It does sync nicely with Omnifocus for the Mac and iPhone though. But if you're using a Mac, Apple's Reminders app is pretty sweet though a little overly simple. One thing that's awesome with Reminders is that it does geo-fencing so it can remind you to do something when you get home or get to work. Also you can tell Siri "Remind me to feed the cat when I get home" and that will just work. You'll need to have set up your Contact card with a home address for Siri to know where home is.

Evernote is pretty awesome and is free for light use.

If you're on Comcast, their XFinity apps aren't too terrible and do provide some nice functionality. Their XFinity Player app will now allow you to download some shows to the iPad (mostly Showtime and Starz I think).

The Netflix app does streaming nicely. HBO and Showtime both have apps that give you access to their back catalogs.

Amazon has an Amazon Instant Video app, and a Kindle app. The Kindle app will sync your current place in a book with e-ink Kindles. We bought into Barnes & Noble's ebook system instead, but they also have a Nook app which does the same thing.

On the music front, Pandora and Spotify have decent players. My favorite online radio station, Radio Paradise, has a decent player. The revived WFNX has RadioBDC. Amazon has "Cloud Player" for their MP3 store. And Brian Eno's "Bloom" is quite nice.

On the comics front Comixology has the lion's share of the comics market and is a very nice app.

Dropbox is great and the iPad client works quite nicely. If you use a .edu address with them you get double the storage.

There's a Skype client for the iPad, and Apple's Messages app will let you get text messages to other Apple users for free by not going over SMS (this is a little better on the iPhone).

If you sync a good chunk of your music library into your iPad (this needs to be done via iTunes or iTunes Match) then you can use Songkick to find out when your favorite artists are playing nearby; it'll scan your library and then look for musicians it found in it.

Letterpress, Spelltower and Words with Friends are all fun.

Apple's Game Center is a little anemic in terms of what it lets you do but it's progressing over time and is an okay way to find out what your friends are playing.

There are several office compatible apps, none of which are 100% (but then again Microsoft's own Mac apps aren't 100% either, so...). Apple has Pages, Numbers and Keynote, which play nicely with iCloud for sharing documents with the long overdue for an update Mac versions. There's Documents to Go and at least two or three other things. Some of them (Documents to Go, I think) can also talk to Google Docs and Dropbox directly.

iMuscle is pretty neat. So is the Periodic Table of the Elements.

And you should ask Siri to "Open the pod bay doors".

I'm already an omnifocus and evernote user (in fact, I have a year+ of premium thanks to a software bundle of other things I bought).

I've been using the netflix app on my phone and on my rooted color nook (running a twitchy version of plain android), so having the bigger screen has me all happy.

I'm not wild about it, frankly. The keyboard comes up and obscures my ssh window, and that drives me bananas. Also, I'm not super good at typing on glass screens, either. The idea is neat, but I can't keep my fingers where they need to be and that introduces errors that I really don't have time for if I'm actually needing to use my iPad as a terminal window.
