While Valve has had my undying love for years thanks to all the HL games (okay, I never played the PS-only game), Portal, and Team Fortress 2, I have made room in my heart for more gaming goodness. I picked up Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas a while back during a Steam sale, and finally started playing them.

That's some big fun, there.

oh my gods

yes. yes, it is.

there are two places in particular you should go in Fallout 3 which are entirely unrelated to the main quest just because wow. No, wait, there are three if you include the DLC. Did your package include the DLC? If it didn't GET THE DLC HOLY CRAP GET THE DLC. Worth it just for Alaska.

Yep! FO3 is the 'game of the year' edition which includes all the DLC. I loved Alaska. That was great. That gauss rifle.

Also, the acid trip in the swamp while you hallucinate sutures was just... whoah.

My character is now deeply fucked up over that. No, it gets better, because not only does she have her Alaska armour, not only does she have her Alaska weapons set, but due to reasons, she ended up with an extra copy of her orders, orders handed to her in Alaska?

She still has that, too.

Hallucinate sutures? Have I not found this?

You're not talking about the Grove, are you? Because that's a place you need to go, too. And there's a place in the far southeast - a building that just keeps going down, they were a drill manufacturer - that's pretty amazing.

Nope, not the Grove (I went there and then after that heard 3Dog's ramble about it and realized "Oh! He ended up *THERE* while tripping on jet." It's in the "Point Lookout" DLC.

ooooooh cool okay. Yeah, I haven't played that yet. I've got it queued up but I'm holding it 'till I've finished a northwestern sweep I'm on at the moment. ^_^

I liked the games but found the UI to be sufficiently obstructive that I gave up about 1/3 of the way through Fallout:NV

It just seemed like there were so many extra layers of unneeded complexity to simple actions that I couldn't remember how to do right.

I do plan to get Fallout 4, once I've recovered from Witcher 3.

Interesting. I find some of the UI a bit clunky, but I like that the pip-boy manipulation doesn't happen in real time. If it did, I'd quickly become too frustrated by repeatedly dying while I tried to change a weapon.

I'm curious about FO4, although while Somerville is on the map, it doesn't look like my house is in a playable section. (The house is old enough to precede the timeline divergence, which happened just after WWII, I think.)

But I figure I can work may way through even more quests in FO3 and FO:NV until FO4 gets cheaper. Which I think might happen before I run out of content in the other two games.

Humble Bundle has a bunch of Firaxis stuff up at the moment (for the next couple of weeks) that will run on Steam. I'm wondering how it would run on the cheap ARM/Android device I got for streaming video in the living room...

If the games are at least a few years old, it'll probably be fine, I'd think.

I'm eying that bundle. I need to figure out how much of it is *new* to me as I have a bunch of Civ on Steam already.
