claudia and i hid in air conditioning tonite.

"blue crush" was *exactly* what i expected and wanted it to be (besides just totally air conditioned). i'm so pleased.

"signs" ... well, i think he had one great movie in him, and while he can still create mood wonderfully, the film as a whole didn't rock my world.

I think I'm the only person in the universe who liked Signs. I thought it was good, well-paced, well-acted, creepy, suspenseful, outright scary, and also tender and funny in moments. What didn't you like about it?

That's funny, because I felt like one of the only people who didn't like Signs. heh.

I'm the only person in the world who's ambivalent about Signs.

Let's form a team and fight crime.

it was a well-made film. shyamalan is a good director -- the film did a great job of creating mood, and he appears to be *really good* at directing kids (the little girl in particular was stunning). all the acting is good. i was tense, i was scared, i jumped, but the whole time i was also thinking "um... and?"

i do think it totally captured that "something big has happened must watch television must consume information must keep lid on emerging hysteria" thing. and yeah, it admitted that it was "war of the worlds", but ... *shrug* it engaged me at the time but not afterwards. i had a similar problem with spielberg's "empire of the sun".
