so, i went to mississippi. details behind the cut. short form: i got sick and loafed in MS and then came home.

the dayquil kept me in good enough shape to get to gulfport. my stepmother picked me up and we hung out at the house for a bit. it's a nice house -- the decor is clearly someone's idea of what a party pad should look like, but it's across the street (literally) from the gulf of mexico. (the decor includes zebra area rugs up the staircase and a fine art print of a woman holding a leash connected to a leopard that looks like it should be painted on black velvet, and the house is octagonal in footprint)

we took the beach road (us-90) down along the coast for a while and then went to one of the casinos and had lunch (i had french onion soup in a "bowl" made from a hollowed out onion! and a much less unusual caesar salad). then a bit of gambling, and then i was ready to head back to the house. so we did and made an early evening of it. i hung out watching tv for a while until i realized the drugs had worn off hours ago and i was back in a fevered state and was shivering. so i crawled upstairs and dosed on nyquil.

i had rough sleep -- fever dreams that were incomprehensible beyond a conviction that all rules were broken adn the center would not hold. i woke up a few times, adn took more nyqil around 0500. woke up for good around 11, feeling much better. i think the fever has pretty much burned its way thru for now. i kept dosing on dayquil, tho, and mostly spent sunday hanging out on the deck watching the gulf of mexico and the street and watching "shock corridor" on the portable dvd player. then i watched teh beginning of "the royal tennenbaums" but fairly early in the dvd player's battery died, telling me to get my ass inside before i got sunburned.

i was too late -- i'm sporting a notable sunburn on my face, forarms, and the front of my shins. it felt good to be out in the sun, though, and i made a point to do a lot of deep breathing, since i'd been doing a lot of fevered shallow breathing for the previous 24 hours.

for an early dinner we went up the highway a ways to "the shed", a bbq place inside an rv park. good bbq. they don't have plates. :-)

i slept much better last night than saturday night, and woke up in plenty of time to make it to the airport to sit on three planes, where i sucked on halls drops to keep from attempting to cough up a lung. whenever i stop using cough drops or drinking liquid or otherwise pampering my throat, after about 4 or 5 minutes, it begins to feel like my throat is on fire. this is not good.

Hey, Babe, sorry you're sick!

Ive got strep throat again for the second time in two months. My Doc said from a public heath point of view it's important to see who around me I might be getting it from or giving it to. So. I would say if you're home now, you might want to go and get your self cultured. She said strep can look like big swollen tonsils and white lumps, or it can just feel fevery and a kind of sore and scratchy throat and that the only way to tell for sure is with a culture.

I'm way jealous of the sunburn and the good southern food.

see you soon?
