You basically have to get the right kind of tea, which is dyed red-brown and has brown spices in it, mostly anise, I think. Then add twelve tons of sweetended condensed milk.

I suppose you could reporduce it with black tea and red dye and the right spices, but I've never had success.

corwin makes great thai iced tea - i've got a BUNCH of thai tea powder that you could have and we could ask him tonight for his recipe ... of course, that doesn't help you *now*

First, buy some tea and some ice. Then, go to Thailand...

Pr3st0n had a coffee machine in the lab at Borg. He'd mix up Thai iced tea using CAFFEINATED WATER, usually causing our friend Eric to levitate near the ceiling all day.

The restaurant in town uses Mocha Mix instead of half n half. Still tastes good, though.

If you start with the standard Thai Tea that's sold in asian markets everywhere, it pretty much just works. Add dairy products and sugar to taste.

I never really got the hang of brewing my own Thai Coffee, though, but ever since Phil turned me on to the pre-mixed 'Cofe' brand (sorry for lack of detail, everything else on the label is in Thai) bottled stuff, I've never tried. It's excellent, and dirt cheap.

i hadn't actually encountered the thai tea mix in the places i usually shop (mainstream supermarkets, mostly, with the occasional foray into harvest coop in central square or whole foods or something), so i figured i'd try and hunt up a recipe.

but now the folks at GLSE hooked me up with some tea, so i'll try brewing that up next time i get the craving at home, and if that works out i'll just have to go haunt asian grocery stores to find a good source for the tea.
