idle question for discussion:

what should my next career be? or, alternatively, where should i go to grad school and what should i study?

even though I know you've already had a career prior to what you do now, and kicked ass at it, the idea that you would do something else is just weird to my brain for some reason.

I think you should go to graduate school and do something ivory-towerish.

i'm not sure there's anything i'm sufficiently obsessed with that i'd be willing to go to grad school for it. i just figured i'd see what people suggested.

i'm old enough that i think i'd only be able to serve a niche market at this point.

i could become a horseshoe crab herder!

so, do you remember the sculpture outside porter square station in cabmridge? doesn't it look like flying horseshoe crabs when the wind blows enough that the moving bits get kind of horizontal?

i do remember it! i always thought it looked like a lobster, but maybe that's because it's red. or maybe i don't remember it at all! i'm pretty sure it resembles some sort of crustacean, though.

Hmmm - I was thinking along the lines of physics myself. However, think how much fun you'd have in a graduate theatre programm I want video when you start to TA!

You've had a lot of fun comments, so let me make a serious one.

I think you'd make a kicking high-school teacher. You've got a good breadth of real-world knowledge and experience, plus you're mentally and physically adventurous (compared to, say, some of the walking stereotypes of sweatered ladies I had in high school classes).

If my kids didn't already know you, you'd be the kind of adult I would want them exposed to at that point in their lives. Finally you have a calm and straightforward handle on sex, sexual behavior and sexuality. Given how many high school kids have to wrestle with these issues (not to mention the learning-to-be-queer kids) I'm all in favor of having more high school teachers with that kind of approach available to the kids.

My only worry is that the politics would make you insane or homicidal.
