from now on, whenever i feel smart and think i need to reign in my hubris, i'm gonna go troubleshoot spanning tree. i always end up feeling stupid as a bag of hammers when i do this.

no, wait, i feel stupider than that. stupid as a bag of rocks, i think.

No! No! You SHOULD feel smart! (Cocky might be a bit over the top, but smart is good.)

i should!

except i've been troubleshooting this thing for a couple of hours, now, and i'm feeling good and stupid. *sigh*

at least the other network engineer i'm working with is confused by it, too.

Eek! Yes, at least you're not alone. I hope you figure it out soon. And in the meantime, maybe you can do something to make yourself feel smart? :)

it turned out to be a bug, which is actually kind of comforting since it means it *wasn't* just that i couldn't figure out something that should be figure-out-able.

i'm back to feeling smart!

Spanning tree bridging? Good lord that brings up bad PSI memories...

Broadcast storms rumbling thru town like tumbleweeds....

turns out there's something wacky about foundry switches -- i can insert a GBIC hot and it sees the interface and if i connect it up it shows up/up. but it never sees the bpdu's and so it never sends traffic over the link.

sigh.

and now back at the corporate office, i suspect someone set up a minihub with two different vlans on it because *something* is bridging vlans where it shouldn't and i'm getting all kinds of problems. *sigh*

I did that once at network camp. 'Twas fun to see how different people approached the problem.

R-ness and I once debated about which was dumber, a box of hammers or a box of rocks.... Don't know what that says about us, though.... :-) Perhaps we are just silly....

Yah, well, what does that say about our relationship? :)

That we are capable of great silliness. And are cute as buttons. Of course.
