a letter from the future
Jul. 20th, 2005 05:44 pmmany folks have talked about sending letters to their past selves.
apparently, this meme goes around in a big way in about 10 years, because i just got a letter from myself in 10 years.
some of the contents:
1. stick with it. really. it's better than not.
2. floss more.
3. be nicer to yourself.
4. keep yourself more open to new things.
4a. when you think things are sucking a lot, often it just means that you're operating with blinders on.

Date: 2005-07-20 11:13 pm (UTC)I'd be even more impressed though by advice like "at 10:15 AM on Sept 15, 2005-DON'T step off the curb downtown without looking both ways. Trust me on this! Oh, and that same day... Meadow Muffin to win in the 3rd race."

Date: 2005-07-21 12:12 am (UTC)heh. indeed.
i am reminded of an interesting book i read, "Replay" (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/068816112X), where a guy ends up going back and waking up in his own body years before, several times. one thing that makes perfect sense is that eventually he figures out to memorize dates and flights for particularly bad plane crashes he might run the risk of being on.

Date: 2005-07-21 12:35 am (UTC)Ahh, future to present. Not past to present.
Date: 2005-07-21 12:46 am (UTC)Which brings up an interesting twist on the "Back to the Future Part III" motif. What if you wrote yourself (or anyone else for that matter) a letter to be delivered in the future? Say, a husband-to-be writes his fiancee a letter of love to be delivered in 25 years. Then, she's re-married to someone else, receives the letter, and goes into emotional turmoil. Well, maybe that's a bad example.
