so, the somerville city web site says, regarding the curbside recycling schedule: "Place all recyclable materials next to trash on the curbside by 7AM."

and i've never successfully managed to put the stuff out early enough in the morning. if i think to put it out the night before (a rarity), then it's great.

i've just figured out why i've never managed to put the stuff out in the morning, even when i try to do so just before 7am: the recycling guys' route must start close to my house, because they hit my place at 0630.

i dropped a note to the somerville city webmaster saying "hey, you should update this."

if i were an asshole, i'd put my trash out at 6:59 and then call the DPW when it didn't get picked up and complain, but really, that's more of an asshole than i need to be, here.

clearly, i need to start thinking of it as a weds evening task, not a thurs morning task.

Sounds more like a call should be placed to the Somerville DPW to let them know their employees (or more likely contractors) are violating their contract and also possibly operating in violation of local noise ordinances - which may limit their noisy operations to after 7:00AM (that's a Cambridge requirement and I would not be surprised if it was a Somerville requirement too). I don't see that as being an asshole, but more letting the City know that it is not getting the service it is paying for (with your tax dollars).

It turns out i got a nice email back from the DPW folks asking what street I lived on since they're definitely not supposed to start before 0700. So I told them.

They get to our place after 2pm usually, so if someday you wake up and realize you missed them, and you really want to get rid of your weekly recycling, feel free to drop it by here.

That would be kind of useless, seeing as miss_chance has trash collection on Tuesday and yours is on Monday.

Yeah, I always put out trash and recycling the night before, cause I am SO not a morning person. Fortunately they come here late enough that even on the days I forget I can usually get it out to the curb on time.
