weekends are odd since i'm not working. but i've got enough random stuff going on that the difference between weekends and weekdays is noticable. (if nothing else, right now, weekdays are when i have carpenters in the house doing stuff to my bedroom). one piece of advice that i found helpful when i was on leave last year that i'm also keeping in mind here is that you should have enough stuff going on that you have to keep track of what day of the week it is. it's a grounding thing, i think.
so, saturday my brother john and i went down to the cape and helped my folks hang xmas lights and brought the tree they'd bought into the house and set it up so it could open its branches overnight and then they could decorate it starting the next day.
setting up the tree was a bit exciting. we had to cut the bottom of the tree straight so it would fit in the base and the handsaw wasn't doing a good job of it (great saw except the blade had enough rust on it that it was sticking in the cutting groove). so my dad ended up using the chainsaw to do it. in the living room.
HELLO, AND WELCOME TO MY FAMILY IN ACTION! CHAINSAWS IN THE LIVING ROOM AS XMAS PREPARATION. i love my family. (i'm not being ironic, here.)
after we came back from the cape, claudia and i hung out and watched a couple of episodes of the tick and an old episode of buffy that she'd never seen and then we woke up late and had a wonderfully lazy morning/early afternoon. except when it came time for breakfast, we were out of both cheerios and milk (well, there was milk but it had turned), so i secured my position for today as "the world's best girlfriend" because i shovelled out my truck and then went out to the star market and bought milk and cheerios while claudia was showering.
then we went to see "moulin rouge" which was a really fun movie. and after the movie we got hot chocolate at the someday cafe and hung out there for a while and then i dropped her off at home and came home. all in all, a good weekend.
