rip rip shred
Apr. 6th, 2010 08:21 pmokay, i've ripped out about half of the tub enclosure and related drywall this evening. so far, things don't look *nearly* as bad as i feared. there's evidence of some humidity trouble, but that's to be expected, particularly given that it's plain old drywall on the wall and not blueboard. but it's not in the terrible shape that i was afraid it would be.
and there's something very primal and enjoyable about pulling big chunks of drywall off the studs with my hands. plus the swinging the small crowbar thing.
i didn't want to deal with setting up the ladder or with pulling the fixtures off of the pipes, so i didn't touch the wall with the faucets and shower head on it and i still have to pull the moulding off at the wall/ceiling join.
once i've dealt with that, i'll get the blueboard -- i was holding off until i got the walls ready for the board to go up so that i wouldn't have to keep walking/working around it.
i'm hoping to be ready for the board to go up by the weekend. although "weekend" pretty much means "saturday" since i'm off to the cape to see a performance of "25th annual putnam county spelling bee" (a musical by the same man who wrote a musical about a guy having a stroke (well, technically, an arteriovenous malformation) that included a song set in an MRI machine).
(in the subject, "rip" is a verb, not an acronym)
