So, a couple of weeks ago marked ten years since I bought this house and moved from Seattle back to the Boston area. So, yay decade. So far so good. My house isn't *nearly* as renovated as I expected it would be by now - I did get the foundation repointed and both porches rebuilt, which seemed the most important things at the time of purchase, but I really expected I'd have done more interior renovations (eg kitchen remodel and turn the nonfunctional 'other-half bath' into something more functional). I moved in with [livejournal.com profile] clauclauclaudia several years later than I expected, but we're pretty happily shacked up now so that's all good. There were some things that weren't on my radar 10 years ago, so I guess me-from-2001 couldn't be surprised at the current disposition of things on those fronts. A few things have unfolded about like I expected, and a few things have not. I've taken up new hobbies and let some falter by the wayside at least for now. One of the several reasons I moved back was to spend more time with my dad so I wouldn't notice him looking so much older every time I saw him, and that was a solid success as I did get more time with him before he died.

The cats are all still alive, which is pretty cool and not entirely expected (15 seems old for a cat), although still feels weird to my internal timeline that the older two have lived here for twice as long as they lived in the Seattle area. And the younger cat only lived there for less than 2 years so the proportions between reality and in my mind are really skewed there.

So, yeah. It's been 10 years. It doesn't feel like it, but I think time passing often doesn't feel like you expect it will.
