holy crap! poker!
Apr. 2nd, 2006 12:56 ami went down to foxwoods today for the $300 ($260+40 with $2K added money) ladies' tournament (the only comparatively cheap tournament in their spring tour event that's on a weekend). i've made the final table, and play resumes tomorrow at 4pm. i'm pretty stoked.
i'm slightly above average chipstack at the moment, so i think i could make the top 5 if i hit a bit of luck or can at least sufficiently represent it.
of course, the problem here is that i have off-hours work monday morning at 0530 at the office. oops.
more details later.

Date: 2006-04-02 01:40 pm (UTC)i've been really liking the structure of this tournament. 3000 starting chips, 50 minute rounds, and the blind/ante escalation is pretty good.

Date: 2006-04-02 01:48 pm (UTC)i've got about 132K in chips.
i took a beat fairly early and spent several rounds just grinding it out with a half-average-sized-or-so chipstack desperately trying to steal a few blinds or pots here and there to get lucky, getting a little breathing room when i got AA (freaking everyone out by limping pre-flop with them because i was in early position and desperately wanted action on my hand so i was hoping for several callers), and then got lucky and nearly tripled up with THE SCOTTRO (hole cards 77) when i beat AK and QQ to make a full house on the turn. at that point, i had enough of a working stack that i could be more aggressive and could steal with more authority.
not a whole lot of people playing back at random aggression, actually. the woman to my left complained that if it was folded around to us i always raised my blind. and yet she never reraised me.
i was able to steal a lot of small pots by looking, thinking "man, that flop didn't hit me but i bet it didn't hit anyone else" and taking a stab at it if there was no action by the time it was my turn. if someone called and i had crap, i just check/folded. which i suppose is my bad for not trying to continue my aggression... :-)
