from the NiN concert (which was cool. also, i hadn't realized that bauhaus was opening -- dude! fucking bauhaus!):

  • two chicks writhing together and making out in the seating box in front of me, somewhat blocking my view of the stage, but the body language made me guess they were showing off for their boyfriends (although one of them looked like she was more into it than the other): not very hot. i mean, they were cute enough in that mainstream way, but ... eh.[1]
  • stagehand chick (who's *totally* got that competent ambiance about her) wandering around in and out of the sound board area next to me, wearing a shirt that says "caution: contents under extreme pressure" and carrying a wrench in her pocket: hot. i have no idea what her sexuality was, but she definitely looked like she knew how to wrangle tools.

mmmm. competent women.

also, regarding the concert, the first opening act was "peaches", who i had not previously heard of, but who made me think she might be the punkest thing in the entire evening -- besides getting her rocker-chick action going, standing on amplifiers and singing loudly about "two guys for every girl" and having the boys do hot guy on guy action for her, she stripped down to a near-bikini looking thing, put on a cape that had XXX on the back, and ran around the seating area interacting with the audience while singing "FUCK THE PAIN AWAY". it was awesome.

in completely other news, either the dishwasher or the washing machine is making some wet gutteral sound occasionally that sounds enough like a horking cat that i keep thinking "wait! where are the cats??"

[1] although a coworker sitting nearby definitely looked like he was going to fall off of his chair while they were doing their thing. so, clearly, opinions differ.

I am in fact something of a fan of Peaches, although her schtick can definitely grate if you are around it for too long. but she does an awesome live show.

yeah, she was on for just long enough, i think. knowing absolutely nothing about her, i was delighted by the show. (first opening acts are such a crapshoot -- sometimes you get awesome people grooving on their first big exposure, and other times they just suck. one concert, the band actually asked the audience, "my god, why are you here this early???")

Yeah, if I'd known the opening act was Bauhaus I think I might have found a way to make the show!

actually, NiN was pretty good. also, some of the sfx tech they had was outstanding. computer controlled LED matrices hit the bit stage.

Your life continues to parallel my own. I was at the beach the other day with friends, who were
amused by my continued admiration of the lifeguard (who was completely covered in a sweatshirt
and sweatpants), watching her haul the tower around the beach as needed, exhibiting the quiet
competence you speak of and I totally understand, ignoring the underfed bikini babes.

And we have two things in our house that make that horking noise (aside from the cats).
One is the washing machine. The other is a complete mystery.
