boring update...

so, my tivo came back to me happy and full of disk this week and i've been gradually rebuilding my season passes and wishlists. yay.

i had overnight work this morning, and ended up taking a big long nap yesterday evening, then dealing with work and sleeping hard afterwards. i think i should be able to pick up with my normal schedule again tonite.

that's the last big work-related thing i had due before vacation starts this weds nite and clauclauclaudia and i head out, and i'm eagerly looking forward to las vegas for barge (including tickets to several cirque shows) and then driving around in southern utah and the northern strip of AZ.

i got my big sheep-covered teapot the other day and just finished a big tasty pot of tea from it. yum.

I think I missed what fixed your tivo.

the tool i used was my checkbook!

so, i fired up a pair of disks with instant cake, and installed them and had no luck making the tivo work. so, in a fit of confusion (and fear that some other non-disk component had failed), i sent it off to the folks at ptvupgrade. they determined that both disks i had used were faulty -- they failed basic diagnostics, not just as tivo disks. so i had them do an upgrade with new disks and ship the newly fixed tivo and the failed disks back. i'm going to see about returning the pair of maxtors i got from microcenter in the next day or two.

i feel like a dork for not doing a better job of testing the disks, but i'm pleased it wasn't a deeper problem with the tivo.

Cool I didn't know that ptvupgrade did that kind of work. Our Tivo is getting a little flaky (stutter durring play back), no shame in using the checkbook

yeah. it's listed on their site as "recertification" or something like it. it ran me $75 plus the cost of the disks and such.

i've been really pleased with them when i've dealt with them.

for stuttery playback, you might just try taking the cover off and making sure all the connections are tight. a loose ide cable will cause that kind of stuttering, i think.

Temperature can cause stutter as well. The bottomest TiVo in my stack had issues with that until I added some Altoids tins to the stack to give it some air space.

have ye fun in vegas. I keep hoping for an excuse to go there (i.e. someone else paying for it) but the opportunity has yet to materialize. all an excuse to see Cirque, o'course.
