MRI scheduled for sat early AM. yay! i'm on the list to see if they can fit me in earlier if anyone cancels.

i gloomily expect some arthroscopy in my future. otoh, i'm fairly mobile at the moment -- muffyjo has swapped her automatic xmission car for my standard xmission mini, so i can drive, and i can stand and hobble around with only very occasional pain, so that's all good.

anyone local to me have a copy of xp home install media i could borrow? i fucked up a registry edit and can't find my install media around, so i need to do a recovery on it.

this weekend, clauclauclaudia and i are going to see sweeney todd in boston. yay!

btw, any crafty folks on my list on ravelry? if so, let me know and there can be great friending. (i have to get around to uploading a bunch of pix (i'd been waiting til my xp box was working again, but maybe i'll load them elseways), including some pix of a baby blanket i just finished recently, which i can then put on ravelry)

Gnar. why does the HR department take so long to communicate once all the paperwork is in?

because it's a giant company spun-off from a government program, so things move at a glacial pace, i suspect.

Rumor has it that, though the wheels grind slowly, they grind fine. (What the hell does that mean?) Soon, grasshopper.

No serious worries; the disparity between how quickly they wanted paperwork from me and how quickly I get it back was striking, is all.

It comes from the days when corn and flour were ground in gristmills (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gristmill), between two large circular stones driven by a wheel. The more slowly the millstones turned, the finer the resulting grind.

My knowledge: it is large but exceedingly useless.

it's a new social web site for knitters and crocheters.

i think they're trying to be for crafty types like myspace is for bands. myspace has a way to share music clips and stuff like that, i guess, and ravelry lets you post pictures and info about your yarns, your projects, etc.

they're still in beta, but you can sign up for an invite as they go down the list (i was some absurd number in line a couple of months ago, but then got my invite a couple of weeks ago and now i'm actually poking at it a bit).

oops.

i knew i forgot something in that previous comment.

go to https://www.ravelry.com/account/login and select the "add my name to the list". you can also check where you are on the waitlist using their waitlist checker on that same page.

I confess, the word "arthroscopy" first made me think, "they're going to make you watch spiders?"

Maybe it's a Halloween thing.

I love the one with a ton of sugar eyes. It strikes me as Cthulhuoid.

I completely failed to pull it together for Halloween this year, but I think I really want to do a whole Cthulhu/Giger Halloween next year.

I had arthro done in 2003. Possibly the worst part about it was not being able to shower for a week afterward.

I've had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee twice. Piece of cake. :-)
